Just got a text message from Jack. He received his ten year anniversary check from his employer this morning. I knew it was coming up, but when I got the message, it really struck me. WHOA. What an accomplishment!

When I met Jack (almost 12 years ago - I was 19 if I remember right), he was a completely different person than he is now. People always laugh at our story, because we didn't like each other at all when we first met. He was your typical single, jock in his mid twenties - sarcastic as hell, preferred partying and/or sleeping over working, not a care in the world, yada yada...and he didn't like me because I didn't pretend that I liked him - I made it known (imagine that). Because we had mutual friends, and neither one of us was willing to give them up, we were forced to get to know each other, and obviously :) we got over the first impressions. But even over the next couple of years, as we became best of friends, his work habits were still not much to speak of: he didn't save his paychecks, he called in to work, he blew his money on crap, etc...
I don't think it was until we started dating and getting serious, that he started to turn it all around. And that's when I knew that he was the one for me. He was showing me that I was worth it, that he was willing to "straighten up" and get his life in order. And did he ever.

Here were are, 2009. He has been with HGBD for 10 years, and is the viewed as the best, most loyal, hardworking, reliable crew chief they have. He went from an hourly employee who wasn't taken seriously, wasn't reliable, on the brink of being fired to a crew chief with his own truck, gas card, crew, etc....he gets the toughest projects because he's the best at what he does. He's smart, he's passionate, he cares deeply about each project and hates to get it wrong, even if it's only by a foot or two. He has made a name for himself at HGBD, and his supervisors/boss/owners now know what he's capable of and what he contributes to the success of the survey department. And that makes me SO incredibly proud of him. He's come such a long way, and I am proud to be Mrs. Jack Miller. He's an incredible employee, a great husband and bestfriend, and an amazing father. He works hard to provide a good quality life for his family, and sets an incredible example for our children. I am one lucky girl, and I will make sure his children understand how lucky they are too :)
